Immerse yourself in nature and build a healthier lifestyle at Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat.
When we live a life in harmony with the earth, we feel well, balanced and healthy. Yet in today’s fast-paced, technology-centred world, it can be hard to make space for a connection with nature and even with ourselves.
Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat is the perfect place to build a healthier life. With the largest land space of any retreat in Australasia, Gwinganna arms guests with tools and techniques to build a healthier life once they leave the retreat and return home. “Days here are carefully designed to help re-set our natural circadian rhythm with time away from screens and technology, and space to simply be,” Deb Munster, General Manager of Gwinganna, says. “Our goal is for guests to be nourished by organic food and supported by extraordinary spa and wellness therapies that help enhance results so guests leave feeling calm, refreshed and focused on their wellbeing.”
THE EXPERIENCE
A stay at Gwinganna is an experience like no other. The Gwinganna Wellness Weekend is the perfect option for those with limited time who need a restorative experience, whereas the Gwinganna Detox provides guests with a powerful program that allows their bodies to completely reset and renew.
Gwinganna also offers seasonal retreats, women’s retreats, yoga retreats and other specialty offerings. Each program varies, with offerings including wellness seminars and guided movement programs, such as Qi Gong, dance and yoga. There’s a real focus on education here, too — you will learn things about your body and your mind that will allow you to live a healthier life when you return home.
Of course, the spa experience at Gwinganna is second to none and is not to be missed during your stay. “A range of unique spa options are available including the award-winning Spirit of Sound or the Intuitive Massage therapy, which customises every modality and moment of this treatment,” Deb says. “Our equine therapies remain very popular, working alongside our beautiful horses, and our specialty spa options feature Australian-owned natural brands such as Subtle Energies Ayurveda Aromatherapy and Vanessa Megan’s Naturaceuticals.”
An organic garden, two heated swimming pools, the spa sanctuary, an amphitheatre, a dedicated wellness education complex, a mind body pavilion, yoga studio, tennis courts and gymnasium further add to Gwinganna’s extensive facilities.
FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
A diverse range of different accommodation styles allows guests to choose how they wish to spend their days on this unique property that offers so much Queensland history along with new elements that merge together in the serene Gold Coast hinterland setting.
“From cosy, fully restored heritage houses to the eco-conscious Orchard Suites overlooking our expansive orchard, Gwinganna has it all,” Deb says. All accommodation at Gwinganna includes an en suite, air conditioning, ceiling fans, organic bathroom amenities, a robe, a hairdryer, a hot water bottle and herbal tea with a kettle. The premium accommodations will leave you spoilt for choice, with options like the Boorabee Villas featuring private plunge pools or the Moonarie Villas with their plunge pools and spectacular ocean and valley views.
Yet one of our favourite accommodation options at Gwinganna would have to be the Meditation Suites. Located in Gwinganna’s orchard, these suites have been thoughtfully designed with mindfulness as a priority. Natural light, a serene outlook and facilities to make your yoga or meditation practise easier make these suites a true wellness wonder.
When it comes to meals, the menu is just as carefully considered as the rest of the retreat’s design. “Our food philosophy is based on the S.L.O.W principle of eating seasonal, local wholefoods that are organic,” Deb says. “Meals are designed with a nutritionist to carefully balance essential nutrients at every meal, while presenting these with flair and ensuring they are delicious. Guests often say ours is the most delicious detox they could ever imagine.”
Menus are gluten and dairy free, and designed to improve digestion and liver detoxification, reduce inflammation, improve gut bacteria and balance blood sugar levels.

Melbourne is heading into its colder months and my skin desperately felt like it needed hydration and more elasticity. I previously tried a few different cult products promising restored hydration and glow. But, as a time-poor woman in her mid-20s with a lot on my plate, I found myself giving up hope I would ever achieve the renewed radiance I was after. I decided to shake up my skincare routine and test out New Nordic’s skincare range.
New Nordic is a Swedish-based company founded in 1990 by Karl Kristian Bergman Jensen. In 2004, François Gérard joined New Nordic, and together with Jensen spends time travelling all over the world investigating rare botanicals in their unspoiled environments.
Beauty starts from within
New Nordic’s Hyaluron Active supports the skin’s ecosystem both inside and out, which is an important component to maintaining long-term skin health. Vitamin C helps protect cells from oxidative stress, one of the leading causes of visible age signs in skin. Vitamin C also contributes to normal collagen formation and thereby to normal skin function. Collagen is an important structural component of skin and of connective tissue, including elastin, which has an effect on the firmness of skin and skin elasticity.
Living in an inner-city suburb of Melbourne means my skin is constantly exposed to the harsh effects of oxidative stress from pollution. Not to mention my skin only just had weeks of sun exposure in summer, and it was certainly suffering the effects because I was noticing a few new broken capillaries, redness and freckles.
As part of my new skincare routine, I take one Hyaluron Active tablet a day with water in the morning. I’ve noticed a gradual difference in my skin’s firmness with the additional hyaluronic acid from this tablet. Being in my mid-20s, I’m becoming more cautious of my skin losing firmness with age, and this supplement helps support my skin’s collagen from within, something I’ve been loving doing daily.
New Nordic Moisture boosters
My new skincare regime consists of New Nordic’s Natural Magic Anti-Ageing Cream. It has become a staple in my night-time skincare routine. With ingredients like pomegranate, sea buckthorn and apricot, the serum is a feast for my senses as well as my skin. Sea buckthorn contains a high dose of vitamin C as well as three times more vitamin A than carrots and a potent amount of vitamin E. The cream contains fermented pomegranate and astaxanthin. Pomegranate is rich in antioxidants and contains fantastic antibacterial properties, perfect for the drier condition of my skin. This cream has helped reduce some of my stubborn acne due to its antibacterial effects.
I recently moved to an area surrounding lots of walking tracks which I’ve been making good use of. Afterwards I rinse my skin, and this has led to more frequent washes for my face than usual, and with the higher exposure to UV radiation I find the Natural Magic Anti-Ageing Cream helps repair my skin from the environmental factors and replaces lost moisture.
Ideal to use alongside New Nordic’s Natural Magic Anti-Ageing Cream is New Nordic’s Hyaluronic Active Serum.
I apply this serum morning and night and I love how it makes my skin look and feel. Containing fine molecular hyaluronic acid, squalene and sea buckthorn, it restores, lifts and provides firmness to the skin. My skin is prone to fluctuating between normal and dry, and this serum is suited to both skin types, which takes the hassle out of choosing a serum more suited to one or the other.
As a very active woman who frequents the gym regularly, I find my skin is prone to a build-up of excess oils and debris. The Hyaluronic Active Serum penetrates well into the skin, giving me that extra boost I need. It leaves me feeling rebuilt and fresh, and I’ve been leaving the home with no makeup on to allow it to penetrate and do the work. This product, like all of New Nordic’s range, has become a staple in my skincare routine.

Some wellness destinations need no introduction — their reputation precedes them. That’s certainly the case at Elements of Byron, a retreat with an absolute beachfront location that epitomises the concept of barefoot luxury.
Visitors to Elements can enjoy four unique ecologies during their stay, with rainforest, dunal, wetland and eucalypt environments all within the site’s borders. In addition to the two kilometres of absolute beachfront, the property abuts Belongil Creek, a tidal tea tree estuary home to a range of rare and endangered nesting shore birds.
THE ELEMENTS OF BYRON EXPERIENCE
Built on a legacy of holistic and mindful living, combined with highly qualified professionals and state of the art facilities, Byron Bay wellness is alive. Elements of Byron introduces an inclusive approach to wellness, one that challenges the confines and rigid structure of a traditional retreat.
Experiences there are designed to be chosen by the individual, pursued by the individual and learned by the individual, reflecting the philosophy that everyone’s wellness journey is unique.
Guests at Elements of Byron can completely customise five nights of indulgence and wellness to draw them through the three vital phases that Elements believe make the perfect wellness holiday: relax, rebalance and revive. During their stay, guests will learn from their experiences, allowing them to take home practices that will offer long-term benefits for their health.
A visit to Osprey Spa is a must-do component of any trip to Elements. Here, you can unwind in a tranquil, light-filled space with nature all around you.
With many tailored experiences to choose from, therapists personalise treatments to the unique needs of each guest. The spa experience starts with a warm welcome and offering of herbal tea before you enjoy your treatment. Rest peacefully in the spa lounge at the conclusion of your treatment.
Osprey spa only supports local- and Australian-made premium skincare brands with a selection of products and gifts available in the retail space. The spa recommends booking at least 2-3 weeks prior to your stay to reserve the time that works best for you.
And of course, a trip to Elements would not be complete without a visit to their stunning swimming pools. Whether you’re enjoying the serenity of the adults exclusive pool, featuring private cabanas, a swim-up bar and a food truck serving Mediterranean snacks, or you’re relaxing on a day bed at the central lagoon pool, Elements has you covered.
FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
Elements of Byron has four food outlets that celebrate fresh flavours and local seasonal produce. Choose from two poolside options, room service delivered direct to your villa, or dine in at Azure Bar and Grill, one of the finest restaurants in Byron Bay.
Menus change seasonally and cater to various dietary restrictions including vegetarian, gluten free and vegan.
Finally, the accommodation at Elements is as luxurious and peaceful as one could want. Choose from one of eight different types of freestanding villa, each celebrating the breathtaking natural vista on the property. Each villa features an en suite bathroom and lounge area, with some villas offering extra benefits such as a gas fireplace, outdoor dining area or private bathhouse.
